I try to give every book a chance because I believe that there's something great out of everything so my patience was tried by this book; made me read 3 boring chapters before going to the juicy bits!
This book is quite good; like its one of those ones that are predictable. IT has a lot of symbolism and you have to know about US history to understand the context. I know, I feel so smart. Lol
LOVE is in every form and this song is so beautiful I just have to put it on my site.
it says: Will work for love I will (3x)I'll work for love, overtime Baby, it says will work for love I will (3x) I'll work for love, for all my life I will work for love
The story is basically about child abuse. The disturbing imageries from the narration is indeed compelling, but other than that - I found it plain. I hated the fact that he's weak, he's not too determined to escape his misery - he did nothing but wait. Wait until an angel in the form of a policeman saved him after 7 years of severe hunger, slavery, and maltreatment. Like wtf?
I guess the bandwagon's taste is far different from mine. I only bought the book because of the wonderful reviews it received and I thought I would appreciate the book as much as most of the people did. What I love about books are the aphorisms and this book contained a good deal of them. The book is basically Morrie's journey through death and how he amazingly goes through it with a positive outlook. I've already read 3 books from Albom and he has this consistent theme which somehow affects my appraisal for each of his books.
*** I am amazed by Morrie's ability to draw emotion from people who wanted theirs locked away, a good skill.
This book is the BOMB. Seriously, all meat-eaters should read this book and I swear they'll never eat meat, dairy or poultry produce. http://www.meat.org WATCH THIS.
this book encourages a purely vegan lifestyle, but then again not all will really go for the vegan lifestyle [that includes me]. the book contained a LOOOOT of information on why and how come we get a lot of shit from the food we eat nowadays.
what i've learned: *softdrinks are evil. they become formaldehyde [a chemical used for flesh preserving, you know those fetus in jars with clear liquid in it? well that clear liquid is the formaldehyde] when ingested. *dairy should be blamed for the early onset of puberty in our generation. *chickens are the most abused animal on earth. *corn syrup is even worse than sugar. [well i used to think its healthy cos its derived from 'corn'] *we don't have the enzymes to properly digest milk & meat.
Katherine Heigl must be my favorite girl at the moment. She has this marvellous big smile that can just give you warmth [i'm serious she does that to me. haha]
The movie is really good. It has a refreshing story and character personalities. From the standing-up-for-myself kind of bitches from the last movie era ----- here comes a lady that's sooooo kind that she's okay with her sister bossing her around. The movie's also highlighted by the cute male lead. :)
Basically, its a really good movie. You should watch it [i bet you guys most prolly already did.]
Finally, something from Albom dude for me to admire. The story is good, the narrative tone used is pretty much conducive, it is the casual type using the first person narration.
One thing I noticed about his works though, he's too clings too much with the nature of moms and dads. In the other book he wrote, The Five People You'll Meet in Heaven (five people), the mom role is shown in a positive light, whereas the dad role is all negative. Its just the same with this book, the mother is the one taken for granted who's been through it all while the dad is the secret villain who the main character tries to please. I dunno, I just don't like consistency from stories but overall, it teaches life lessons. Doesn't improve much in my vocab though,
There are not a lot of movies nowadays that can make me say "That is a GOOD movie." or mimic the lines from it. I must say that this movie is SUPERRRRRB.
It was most probably the storyline that amazed me that much; it had a story. Its not just one of those movies that were created for the sake of creating it. The story would make you think the movie didn't run for 2 hours.
The advertising also helped. In their trailers, you can never really figure out what happened why he was alone - the joy of suspense. So the outcome is that in the movie, you'd find yourself saying 'oh so that's why.'
The story ended with a reasonable end.
*its really hard not to give out spoilers so i'll cut this short. its such a good movie for you guys to know spoilers you know. [grammar checking, help needed. haha]
is it the fact that the story was set in an amusement park or i just expected a little too much from the book?
the book was short, a fast read - i found it too short. the main character's life was too bland, the only part i was amazed & thrilled was the WAR ERA wherein philippines was the war zone [made me happy that my country was in it :D].
i have to admit the author's genuine way of creating a story: flashbacks. the book has a lot of flashbacks and it made me imagine wonders and connect dots about eddie's life.
i like the fact the the girl in the very end is a filo. :D
Summer has come and passed The innocent can never last wake me up when september ends
like my fathers come to pass seven years has gone so fast wake me up when september ends
here comes the rain again falling from the stars drenched in my pain again becoming who we are
as my memory rests but never forgets what I lost wake me up when september ends
summer has come and passed the innocent can never last wake me up when september ends
ring out the bells again like we did when spring began wake me up when september ends
here comes the rain again falling from the stars drenched in my pain again becoming who we are
as my memory rests but never forgets what I lost wake me up when september ends
Summer has come and passed The innocent can never last wake me up when september ends
like my father's come to pass twenty years has gone so fast wake me up when september ends wake me up when september ends wake me up when september ends
Chinese bad guy: [shouts at Carter in French] Detective James Carter: [to Lee] What the hell is that? Chief Inspector Lee: I think he's speaking French. Detective James Carter: You Asian, stop humiliating yourself!
damn lots of evil chinese dudes. the genevieve is soo manly.
<3 its like hsm - only WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY BETTER. i loove the do. :]
i like this musical movie because the central character is a different one: bubbly and has an attitude. compared to some actress who had her naked pictures swarming on the net - i like this chick and seeing john travolta as a fatassed mum is definitely to die for. haha
my hinge aboutthis movie when it was on the posters and commercials was it was another nonsense movies wherein it has the same plot as everyother troubled teenager movie. i was wrong. i really liked the movie and lindsay was a natural, maybe because the part she's playign is natural about her. haha
After the non-stop reading for two and a half days, I finished the book two weeks ago and reading it cost me one job. I hate my boss anyway so yeah its pretty cool.
I was soo disappointed; I don't know... its just what every HP book was, many knots in the story and was later untied at the end of the book. And the duel between Voldie and Harry, wtf.o_0 He was killed by a mere Expelliarmus Spell. The Dark Lord for heaven's sake!! The feared and powerful. And I thought he's good at Legilimensy, how come he didn't read Narcissa when he was asking if Harry's dead?
But I do understand JK. She was pressured by the fans and yeah all went to it. But still - I love HP.
"In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that, in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. Last night, I experienced something new, an extraordinary meal from a singularly unexpected source. To say that both the meal and its maker have challenged my preconceptions is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core. In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for Chef Gusteau's famous motto: Anyone can cook. But I realize that only now do I truly understand what he meant. Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now cooking at Gusteau's, who is, in this critic's opinion, nothing less than the finest chef in France. I will be returning to Gusteau's soon, hungry for more."
The movie was so good. Maybe because I love food but anyhow, it is good. ;]
