The ANZAC day
It was my first holiday here in Aust and there is something
that touched my heart about the veterans. ANZAC stand for Australia and New Zealand Army Corps. And ANZAC day is a
holiday dedicated to commemorate the courage and loyalty of the soldiers who
fought and risked their lives during the World War I. It was way-way back 1915
and some of the soldiers were under 16... (Damn! That's my age!o_0)
The ANZAC fever went for a day, I mean the television was
all about ANZAC and the parades and the ceremonies being held at the different
capital cities. There were parades wherein different races in this country
joined the celebration, the veterans were of course on the parade wearing their
medals. Most of the veterans were really really old (duh?!? What do you expect
xina?!Haha! Forgive me.) And they were on their wheelchairs crying, must've
been a really heartbreaking experience. Tsktsk. As for those who already passed
away, their families represent them by wearing their badges and medals.
At the end of the day, when I was watching big brother (Aust
version), I realized how they really value this ANZAC day that the housemates
cried as they were raising their flag on an early morning. I mean all the
Aussies know the value and essence of celebrating the ANZAC day and not just
those who fought during the war. Such pure loyalty that I hope someday could
also happen on my dear Philippines.
:( I can barely remember how we celebrated Independence Day. O_0 sorry for
that, haha! But I of course know the usual ceremonies being held such as flag
raising, television hourly updates, march on Luneta park and long speeches --
oh and some households have flags raised too! But of all these things, I just
can't feel that "spirit of celebrating." =p
Ending: I really admire the Aussies love for their country.
